Product Review, by technical editor Danny Pincivero, Ph.D,
YES/no Fitness Essentials is a book that helps you assess your strengths and weaknesses, draw up your program, and become your own best personal trainer. He also recommends you first seek medical clearance, screening and assessment, as well as face-to-face training with a professional--as needed!
It is obvious, upon reading, that Personal trainer Mike Burnside wants you to move well and be as healthy and fit as necessary. He also ensures that you understand the essential concepts and methods for safe, effective and confident training.
YES/no Fitness guidelines are sound and reflect ‘best practices’ in fitness today. Highly practical, it serves as a do-it-yourself personal training guidebook. I would recommend the book just for the sensible training guidelines. The reader is taken through certain steps to assess both one’s fitness knowledge and one’s actual fitness (and movement) capabilities. Out of the self-screening and assessment come step by step program design which includes appropriate activities and exercises. The book also comes with features such as essential daily training checklists, and easy-to-try exercise progressions and alternative. Throughout the book there is a persistent reminder to ‘take care’ and ‘listen to one’s own body’. Photos and pertinent coaching points illustrate penetratingly the clear exercise variations and progressions--to help the reader improve both comprehensive full body fitness as well as the ability to move well.
If fortunate to have direct professional training from a professional, this book can simply be used as a quality reference or second opinion.
If you are anxious to get going and make needed changes in your health and fitness habits…this book is for you. If good mobility is a significant need (or want), and you sense that attaining such changes probably does entail technical stuff… this book gets you through such concerns with relative ease.
